1. What information we collect from you
There are two types of information we collect: information that
allows us to identify specific individuals and information of a
more generalised nature.
Personal information
Whenever we ask you for information that enables us to identify
you it will be clear that we are doing so and in every case you
will have a choice as to how we use the information that is asked
for. Information of this type will only be asked for on those parts
of our websites that allow transactions to be performed, in
contrast to those parts of our websites that are merely
informational in their function. Use of any CAF’s online giving
tools, for example, necessarily requires that we collect personal
information from you.
Information of this type will also be collected when you contact
us directly by email for any reason or if you specifically request
that we send you information.
Anonymised user information
This type of information helps us to enhance the website and
improve its navigability. It also helps us to improve the quality
of the online services and information you can access. In order to
facilitate this, we use cookies to identify specific
information about your visits to the site.
2. Why we collect personal information from you
Your personal information is needed so that you can use the
transactional areas of our website.
It is also needed so that we can contact you if you have asked
us to do so or if it is necessary as part of a particular
transactional process, for example in order to validate your
authorised user status in relation to a transaction.
3. How we use your personal information
Your personal information enables us to supply the services you
have requested. It will also enable us to contact you where
necessary concerning any transaction you have undertaken.
We may use your information to contact you for your views on our
services and to notify you occasionally about important changes or
developments to the website or our services. Further, where you
have consented, we might also use your information to let you know
about other products and services which we offer which may be of
interest to you and we may contact you by post, telephone or fax,
as well as by e-mail. If you change your mind about being contacted
in the future, please let us know.
Finally, your personal information may be passed by CAF to the
charities you donate to, to inform them of your donation. You can
choose to donate anonymously if you wish but you must make this
clear by ticking the relevant box each time you make an online
donation.
4. Protection of your personal information
If you make donations by credit card, your credit card details
will not be stored on our servers:- they will be stored by our
credit card payment provider WorldPay on the basis of its own terms
of use and privacy policy which can be accessed via the
WorldPay website.
In all other cases, the personal information you provide to us
will be held on our computers in the UK and may only be accessed by
or given to individuals working for CAF itself or for one of CAF’s
entities, details of which can be obtained by clicking here.
If CAF and/or one or more of the other CAF entities enters into
a joint venture with or is sold to or merged with a third party
entity, your information may be disclosed to those who own, control
and work for the joint venture or the merged or third party
entity.
Unless required to do so by law or to protect our own interests,
we will not otherwise share or distribute any of the information
you provide to us without your consent and we will not sell your
personal information without such consent.
We employ security measures to protect your personal information
from access by unauthorised persons and against unlawful
processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage. All personal
information transmissions that provide payment or account details
are encrypted using the security standard known as Secure Socket
Layer (SSL), which encrypts information you input.
We will retain your information for a reasonable period or as
long as the law requires.
5. Accessing and changing your personal information
You are entitled to see the information held about you and you
may ask us to make any changes to ensure that it is accurate and
kept up to date and reflects any change in preferences you may have
previously expressed about the way in which we can use your
personal information. If you wish to do this, please contact us. We are
entitled by law to charge a fee of £10 to meet our costs in
providing you with details of the information we hold about
you.
6. Cookies
A cookie is a small file that is put on your computer. This
file identifies specific information about your visits to
the site. Cookies can only be read, and therefore used, by our web
servers. Our cookies do not save or store any personal information
as such: they take the form of a unique numerical identifier that
enables a computer, but not an individual, to be recognised.
Cookies do not detect and cannot access any information you may
have on your computer.
Our system will issue what is known as a “persistent” cookie to
your computer. A “persistent” cookie remembers your computer and,
by doing so, allows us to identify specific information
about your visits to the site. You may set up
your browser to reject these cookies - consult the help menu
of your browser application for details. If you block the use
of cookies, you may not be able to use some of the features on
the our site.
If you do opt out in this way you will be able to browse and
make use of our website anonymously. However, you may not be
able to undertake any transactions with us.
Our system also uses what are known as “session” cookies for the
transactional areas of our website. This type of cookie does not
save or store, but merely accesses and uses some of the
personal information you have previously given us to remember
log-in details and facilitate your transactions with us. “Session”
cookies are deleted once you log out from the transactional area
you entered.
7. Changes to our privacy policy
Any changes to our privacy policy in the future will be posted
to the website and, where appropriate, through e-mail notification.
Unless otherwise specified all such changes will take effect
immediately upon posting to the website.
